Patrick McKee

My approach to painting is informed by a life-long interest in aesthetic theory, especially those philosophical theories that explore the visual theme of the sublime. In recent years my exploration has been concerned with the expression of sublime meaning through still life. These images aim to evoke the mystery of being through evocative play of dark an light, and the power of one color to enhance its neighbor. My work has also been shaped by many mentors, including Jeff Legg, Karol Mack, Albert Handel, John Taft, Barbara McCulloch, Scott Christenson, Jim Biggers, Cathy Goodale, and others.
