Steve Shachtman
Fort Collins, CO
As a native to northern Colorado, Stephen Shachtman has a wide vocabulary of artistic tendency. After earning his MFA in jewelry design/metalsmithing from Rochester Institute of Technology, Stephen returned back to Colorado to pursue his endeavors in the art world; from teaching at Metro State University, creating work for public art projects, to commercial and residential architectural design, and his true passion creating abstract sculpture in various mediums. Stephen currently works out of a studio close to downtown Loveland.
Stephen’s current work focuses on simple large-scale forms and their relationship to space. The sculptures, created in a constructivist nature, focus on a play and balance between dimensional space of the form and that in which the sculpture physically occupies. This focus on dimensional balance and the play of positive of negative space, from both circular and rectangular windows, allows his work to respond to its natural surroundings framing unexpected views and using light and shadow to enhance the viewer’s experience.
