Inspired by a childhood spent on the wide plains of Eastern Colorado, Julia Mulligan draws from a multi-faceted cultural and geographic background.
Julia’s mother hails from the Dominican Republic. Her American father’s association with an international architecture firm had the family living in Manhattan, Dallas, and Denver. But a move just before her teens put them in a very different environ: Thousands of acres of Colorado prairie.
Distance and solitude were preconditions of life on these outstretched plains, and any free time was dedicated to artistic endeavors.
It was within this landscape that Julia learned to appreciate the natural world; to see it as a canvas for personal reflection and artistic expression. It is what sparked the creative relationship between the head and the hand – a relationship that continues to inform and inspire her today.
Julia is a graduate of The Colorado College with a degree in Fine Art.
