Pat McKee came to serious painting in an unusual way. For thirty years he taught philosophy of visual arts at Colorado State University before stepping up to the easel himself. McKee says: “I found that what was really driving my teaching about the aesthetics of painting was the desire to paint myself.” So in 1995, McKee committed to painting in earnest, enrolling in workshops with such distinguished painters as Albert Handel, Robert Johnson, Karol Mack, Scott Christenson, Elizabeth Robbins, and Jeff Legg. About his unusual artistic background, McKee says: “By coming to painting through philosophy of art, I had a pretty good sense of what I wanted to say.”
